Here are some motors to think about for your RC18T. I'm already decided on a Mamba BL.
Castle Creations Mamba-25 6800Kv - http://www.castlecreations.com
URC K3 - http://www.unitedrc.com
BPP Scorpion - http://www.b-p-p.com
Reedy Mini-Max - http://rc10.com/shusting/CatalogHub/reedy/catrdy1.htm
Tekin is also working up a Scorpion brushless system. Should be out by December.

how is the momba at part throttle? can you take off smooth without spining the tires in race conditions?
therczone
Nov 29 2004, 4:49 PM
Do you mean take off without burning out? I've never seen an R/C car burn out..
The Mamba at half throttle is just as smooth as full throttle.
auto2
Nov 29 2004, 5:14 PM
I mean on a dirt track coming out of a hair pin turn and being able to apply throttle without the tires breaking loose .
I have a novak 5800 in my T4 and most of the guys dont like it for racing cause it has too much torque at just off neutral . it is not smooth. either it is at 0 RPM or it jumps to 1000RPM instantly as soon as you touch the throttle.
A brushed motor feels more like a smooth reostat than an on off switch. get me? :-)
also I use a futaba 3PK and have tried all adjustments with the 5800. exp alt everything.

I'm like you auto2, I have a Novak SS5800 in my T4, but I race on road and the twitchyness (is that a word? lol) isn't as noticeable.
As for the RC18T, I'm gonna get the Fantom Mini-Mod for now, but upgrade to a Mamba 8000 soon.

Greg,
Welcome to RC18Tonline.com!
Be sure to tell us how you like the Fantom Mini-Mod. I havn't heard of anyone using one.

Will do, the order was finalized today, should be here by the weekend. I'll post pictures as soon as I can get a digital camera. Right now my RC18T has a Futaba R142JE reciever (no problems with my 2PH), and the Novak XRS ESC, and the rest is stock...for now. :)

Nov 29 2004, 11:24 PM
Axles still holding up? Good to know you got one of the good ESC's. According to someone on another forum, AE had a bad batch of ESC's that caused aftermarket radio systems to not work correctly with the stock electronics.

Nov 29 2004, 11:30 PM
Axles are goin good so far, although if I go from reverse to forward to fast, I hear a click from the drivetrain. I've dissambled the truck twice to avail. I've ordered the MIP CVDs, hopefully they'll be here before the stock ones snap in half. lol
As for the ESC, I was worried about that before I tried it, but it's working pretty good so far with no glitches.

Nov 29 2004, 11:31 PM
I assume you mean you backordered them correct? I have found dozens of online stores with RC18T parts, but none in stock. All on order.
Greg_Hager
Nov 29 2004, 11:36 PM
Yep, that's what I ment. Great Planes Distributors are showing Late November for all the RC18T parts, except the alumnium A-Arms, the HRC Servo Saver, and the truck its self, all of which say early December.

Nov 29 2004, 11:37 PM
Thats basically what Towerhobbies says. RCMart hasn't gotten any RC18T parts in stock yet. :(

Nov 29 2004, 11:40 PM
To be honest with you, I was suprised when I saw that our RC18T shipped. To bad they only sent us one, we ordered 4. :( At least I was lucky enough to be able to know when it was coming in. Hopefully the parts will be out within a week or two, I need parts for the upcoming racing weekend. :)

Nov 29 2004, 11:42 PM
I'm suprised my LHS currently has 2 in stock (Hobby People). I am sure they will not be there tommorrow though. :'(
RC18T's are THE hottest thing. It's amazing, no one has any, and everyone wants one! Thing's could get violent at the checkout line when a dad has the last RC18T in his hands, and another guy wants it..
I wouldn't be opposed to dropping $250 for an RC18T.. if it was in my hands right now..

I could almost guarantee they won't be there tomorrow. I was running mine in the shop today when one of our Mini-T racers walked in. His first question, "Whoa, what motor and batter pack did you put in that thing?" My response was.."The stock one from the kit." Then I proceded to show him how good it ran with a CHARGED battery. Lets just say it outran his Mini-T that has a 300 motor (I do believe it is the Orion Big Block) and a set of MATCHED Trinity micro batteries. Suprised me. :)

Ok time out, why is this thing so fast?
is it the 4X4? vs 2X4 deal?
Or is this 9 dollar stock motor a real screamer??
Is there a weight difference?
seems the stock motor has real weak magnets in it just by pushing the car.
Oh and BTW for 250 I'll sell you mine!!!:-) all you got to do is drive 3000 miles. I'm standing on my porch with it in my hand .LOL!

I want one now, brand new though. ;)
Greg_Hager
Nov 30 2004, 9:26 AM
auto2, I really don't know why it is that fast. We're going to have an experement today at the LHS, Im going to pull my motor out and put it into a MiniT just to see how it runs. :)

Nov 30 2004, 2:47 PM
let me know what happens. that is a great idea.

Dec 01 2004, 12:04 AM
Well, the Mini-T that we were going to test didn't show up today. I spoke with him, he said he would try his best to make it tomorrow. Sorry for the wait.

Dec 01 2004, 4:03 PM
El Cajon, but I got mine from Family Hobbies in Santee. Last one, but Scott knows me... so he held it in the back for me. :)
I can't wait to drive it!!
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 9:43 PM
Well, the motor is a pretty strong one, we tested it in a bone stock Mini-T today, because I didn't feel like taking apart my buddies Mini-T. It is a LOT stronger than a stock Mini-T motor.

my hobby shop has a few left for 180 and my other hobby shop is gettin some more next week but i dunno pricing! so i'll have 2 very close places for parts!!
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 10:31 PM
$180 seems a bit high. If you could, I'd hold off and get one for $154. :)
therczone
Dec 01 2004, 10:46 PM
I dropped $179 today in my LHS (not online). I could have gotten it for $140 from Towerhobbies, but I wanted it now. I should have something like $600 coming in soon...
Luckily my LHS owner likes me and was willing to hold it for a whole 90 minutes. I'm suprised there we no riots for it...
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 10:48 PM
You all would kill me if I told you what I paid for mine. Lets just say it was less than what you could have got it from Tower for...and I got mine now too. :)
Kaymin
Dec 01 2004, 10:50 PM
You would probably kill me if you knew the price i got it from tower for... rczone knows!
i added you on aim, get on sometime. :excited:
therczone
Dec 01 2004, 10:50 PM
Anyone up for the good ol' guessing game? $110.00 is my guess. If we get within $5 of it, you have to admit it. :)
EDIT: I know? I must have a bad memory. Where are those DeadAIM logs...
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 10:51 PM
Not within $5, sorry. ;) Next!
Kaymin
Dec 01 2004, 10:53 PM
90? get on aim man!
therczone
Dec 01 2004, 11:02 PM
I can't find it in my logs.
WOAH! I didn't notice you both made identical replies. See how fast this forum is growing? I think Kaymin got it for $135.00.
Kaymin
Dec 01 2004, 11:04 PM
115 actually since tower made some mistakes they gave me an additional 20 dollars off.
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 11:12 PM
Well, kaymin, you got it for below cost, I got it at cost. Nice job. :)
therczone
Dec 01 2004, 11:14 PM
Then I win. :) I guessed the original paying price. ;)
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 11:15 PM
Nope, you guessed $110, what kaymin paid for it (without the $20 off) is about $5 more than cost.
therczone
Dec 01 2004, 11:18 PM
And I guessed $135, but Kaymin got the $20 off. So I also win your game too. $130 is cost then? Both within $5.
Funny that we are no longer talking about motors.
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 11:22 PM
Yep, $130 and change is cost. :) I read your post wrong, sorry 'bout that. :)
Here's your prize!!

I think I'll pass. You could always send me your RC18T. ;) And if a monkey jumps out of a box and kicks me in the nuts... I won't be happy.
Greg_Hager
Dec 01 2004, 11:38 PM
I think I'll pass. I like my RC18T to much...besides, you've already got one! :p

Dec 02 2004, 7:46 AM

Dec 02 2004, 9:19 AM
lol, you've got a point.

Dec 02 2004, 5:53 PM
mines here and yes no brakes! Its killin me when i'm stuck inside with no brakes!
Greg_Hager
Dec 02 2004, 5:59 PM
Well, I've got the Mini-Mod motor installed...and it need a lower pinion, BAD. It makes bookoos of torque on paper, but it runs a little faster than my T4 and takes forever to get there. So I'm gonna drop to a 10 or 11 pinion and try her then. :)
auto2
Dec 02 2004, 6:00 PM
yea I agree it definitely is not a good point. that is for sure.
It didn't bother me on the track though . just go in deep and throw it sideways; kick out the rear, square off the turn and out you go.( BTW I can only do that with my eyes closed )

Dec 08 2004, 8:44 PM
i ended up paying, tax and all, at my LHS, 205$, but it was the LAST one, on december 4, and i had to get my wife a new set of wedding rings for 800$ so i was D**N sure going home with something...LOL

Dec 08 2004, 9:05 PM
i might have a second 18t for sale tommorow, i'll let you guys know once i figure this all out.
JonBailey
Dec 09 2004, 3:22 PM
It does have brakes! Just lock out reverse.
auto2
Dec 09 2004, 6:04 PM
yes I know it has some brakes with no reverse. And better brakes with a baja motor. But in the house and just bashing( where you NEED brakes and rev at the same time is NO- GO:-(
At the track I don't use any brakes, just back it into the turn and let the tires scrub off speed(cause it's fun:-) But I guess you get what you pay for and if associated had everything the way everybody wanted it out of the box it would cost twice as much.
